Social media is a digital world that experiences change every minute. Some trend you were thinking of making a post about might become obsolete in a few hours and leave you shocked. Trends last for a few days or weeks and people forget about them like they were nothing. Influencers and digital marketers may earn a lot from these trends but that income flows for a few days then it stops.
The same goes for strategies. A strategy that you used 2-3 years back might have earned you a lot of reach or engagement. It might have also made you a star and give your resume a great repertoire. But if you go back to that technique now, you might even laugh at yourself for choosing that tactic. This gives you an idea about the change social media goes through every year.
This is the reason why you have to keep yourself updated if you want to become a part of this digital world. We understand that it can be tough to learn new stuff all the time but if you do it bit by bit, you'll start to enjoy it and maybe make time for more lessons. To shoulder your burden, we have researched a few old-school techniques that worked great in past times but now will only waste your time. Let's start!
Time to Graduate from Old School Tactics
We often feel comfortable in the old things we do but the world is changing fast and we have to accept that and keep up with it. Updating yourself this frequently might seem a tedious task at first but as you proceed, you won't be able to live without that upgrade.
Upgrading yourself is good because it will help you discover some sides and qualities of yourself that you didn't even know existed. You don't have to learn about the change alone. For the digital world and its transitions, you will get immense help from the digital world itself! Just type your query on Google and you'll get millions of suggestions in about a few seconds.
Before diving into those millions of results, hear some of the updates from us. We're sure you'll be able to figure out a way for yourself and your digital marketing team to provide the best services for your customers.
1. Don't Repeat Your Content
This had to be number one because this is the biggest misconception in the social media world. You shouldn't post redundant content, that's true but not posting your old content while comparing its stats and not telling your audience about it will kill the excitement.
You should create content that keeps your audience on their feet. Showcasing your previous work and pointing out the shortcomings in it will help your audience learn a lot from you. Then they'll ask for your advice and you'll have a golden chance to help them out and earn their trust. This will also help you in remembering your mistakes and avoiding them at all costs in the future. Plus, who doesn't love a flashback from years back when they hadn't hit puberty!
2. Linking Influencers to Get Their Attention
This tactic worked wonderfully when social media influencing just had started. Everyone wanted to help each other and a simple tag to your favorite influencer would've caught their attention. But now, most influencers have over 1K followers and very little time to listen to what you've got to say.
Another disadvantage of it is that it will annoy your audience. You're here for the people who follow you, not for those who won't even read your DMs or check your mentions. Becoming friends with other influencers is great and we highly encourage it. But gaining attention is old school now. Your only focus should be your audience and creating content they like.

3. Don't Outsource
It's true that no one can do your work as good as you can but you also cannot handle all of the tasks. There will come a time when you'll need to hire someone to help and you should prepare for it beforehand. Keep in mind that this person won't deliver the exact results you want but they'll try their best to keep your workflow going.
You should take your time and hire from a reputable place. Create some tutorials and guidelines for your employees because you won't be available for them all the time. You should be patient with them especially if they're new. Giving a chance to new people is risky but some of the new ones give the best results. You can create a strict contract which they have to abide by at all costs if they want to continue the work. You should be lenient in everything else.
4. Lack of Personalization in Automation
You cannot be there for your audience all the time. So, most influencers and brands have an automation system that responds to common queries. It is fine if the person asking you is a stranger and doesn't know much about you. But if they are a consistent follower, then it might hurt them in the long run.
The solution for it is to add a little personalization to your automated message. You can program the automation service to write the name of the follower with an apology message if they text after a certain time or if you somehow forget to text them back. Little things matter a lot and this will have a positive impact on your community. It will also show your new prospects or people who don't follow you how much of a good person you are and that you value your audience.

Ending Statement
Embracing change seems tough but in order to survive, you have to rip off that band-aid of the past and comfort and face the challenge head-on. We might seem like we're saying big words but it is necessary to accept the change. The world won't stop for you to understand and adapt. You have to show the world that you can take on any challenge and go through the stages of transition at any time. Trust us, things will become easy for you once you understand the fact that you need change to survive. Plus, digital media changes all the time, so instead of being sad about the FOMO, you should join the revolution of changes!
